Facebook Chasing MySpace

Friday’s USA Today had an interesting table that showed the growth in page-views in August 2006 versus August 2005 for youth-oriented social networks.

  • Facebook +230%
  • Craiglist +111%
  • Google +68%
  • Yahoo -6%
  • Microsoft Sites – 8%
  • eBaY -10%
  • Time Warner Sites – 40%
  • Comcast -28%

Facebook’s growth over the last 12 months has been impressive, and it has done it with a lot less fanfare and magazine covers than its rival. Facebook is busy shopping itself for a reportable $1 billion. Whether it is worth that or not is a question for the analysts. But with Yahoo and MSN both losing market share in the youth market, can either of them afford to not buy Facebook.
