In November I blogged about the top ten social sites and Gather.com was not on that list and I have not heard anything that would indicate that they have broken into the top ten in terms of members or traffic. I can sense another couple of blogs posts on these sites are needed. David Frank, you bring up a good point in that most people have not heard of the last five sites on the list. Have you run into any posts out there that include a breakdown (description) on how each of these sites are similar or seem to do differ from each other? I began registering to each of these sites to get a better idea, and each requires me to fill out endless profile questions like "I'm scared of:" etc. FYI, I pride myself on not being too terrified of anything, but maybe "sharks". ;-) Hi David, this is great info on the major players in social media space. What I also found interesting from the numbers, was how more sticky some of the sites like Friendster was compared to Tagworld. I wonder if this means that one social network will always be dominant, and that the best way to hang onto a tail position is to be 1) on the way up, 2) on the way down, or 3) a solid niche player.
