Marketing via YouTube

January 23, 2007

Last year I blogged about how companies were using sites like YouTube to help recruit new employees. So I was not totally surprised when Karl Long noticed that Nokia has created its own channel on YouTube.

Karl has an interesting quote in his article from Alastair Curtis who is Nokia’s Chief Designer:

“Design is undoubtedly a key, defining issue in our industry. This is only set to increase over the coming years as we see people demanding mobile devices that more closely match their lifestyle.”

“As designers we have to be constantly looking ahead, predicting how these trends will develop and provoking new ideas. Making these videos public and sharing some of this thinking with the people who use our phones will help us do this.”

Similarly Business 2.0 had an article recently about a company called Silverlit Toys who was very successfully marketing their product, Picco Z, via YouTube. Video is something that traditional advertising agencies can understand as it is very similar to TV so I expect to see more companies use video platforms like YouTube to market their products in 2007.
