An Interesting Week

It was a week where I was buried in client work, but some of the news I noticed was that Neil Patel from Pronet Advertising launched his own web site Quicksprout. I met Neil at the recent Elite Retreat in San Francisco, and Neil’s knowledge about social media sites like Digg is second to none.

Neil’s partner at Pronet is Cameron who recently launched his own web site. Both of these are on daily must-read list.

Two other sites I am enjoying is Seven Mile the blog of domain expert Frank Schilling. Frank is way ahead of the curve, and reading his blog is a great education. Another Frank Antonellis recently launched his SEO blog Seopranos.

And my fellow Elite Retreat Wendy Piersall over at eMoms last week launched her new web site Shoestring Smarts - Smart Business Building on a Shoestring Budget. Wendy’s growing blog empire is fast becoming one of my favorite sites for great marketing information.

In the social media world, I still don’t get all the twitter about Twitter. Is it simply online voyeurism or am I missing the point?

I see that Facebook is adding free classified ad listings, putting it into competition with dozens of established companies like Craigslist and many newspapers according to the New York Times. It seems to me that when companies start straying from what made them successful to things that might produce revenue, that they are already on life-support. Will Facebook be any different?

On the other hand, a social network site that just made a great move is the MyColts social network which just announced that Colts Coach Tony Dungy is going to blog for the network. What a great move for MyColts, and that is the type of move that will bring in additional visitors, traffic and advertising dollars.
