Competitive Research Via Del.icio.us
Digital Inspiration recently had a couple of good articles on how to better use Del.icio.us. One that is great for competitive research and it lets you know when people bookmark you on Del.icio.us.
When someone bookmarks a competitor’s site (or your web site) you can read the notes and tags that people attach to there site while saving it on del.icio.us gives a fairly good idea about what they think of your blog and/or web site.
You can find this information at delicious.com/url and type the URL of your blog.
The results page shows all the delicious users who have bookmarked you, what tags they used to describe your site and user notes, if any.
One often overlooked feature on this page is the Orange RSS icon at the bottom of the page. Add this to your RSS reader and whenever people add you to their delicious favorites, the RSS reader will notify you.
Combine this feature with Google Alerts and you can easily keep track of all your competitors as well as the latest industry news.

This is a slick little trick, that I never would have thought of on my own. And it’s so simple!
It was also nice to see that we’re not as far behind some of our larger competitors as I’d have guessed (at least, not in terms of people bookmarking us on del.icio.us).
