The battle for holiday shoppers is reading up already and one comparison shipping network is hoping that social content will make it the big winner this winter.
According to Internet Retailer, comparison shopping site ShopLocal.com has added “community” features that enable shoppers to create a profile, search through thousands of product reviews, join a discussion on Hot Deals and track prices, all of which can be shared with other site users.
“Since consumers are the ones on the front lines of shopping, we are inviting them to use our site to share their experiences along with feedback on products and special deals,” says Bob Armour, CMO. “The beauty of this type of online sharing is that it is truly unbiased and creates a very friendly, interactive shopping network.
One cool feature that ShopLocal.com offers is a widget on Google Desktop where users can enter a ZIP code and a search term to have updated local deals and information automatically appears in their web browsers.

I was just on a radio show with the developer of what he called, “a human powered network.” It’s rolling out in 50 cities, he said, and it’s called iKnowDan.com. Sounds like they send subscribers “savings based offers” via email and text messages.
