Last month I blogged how Orbitz had joined the social networking bandwagon with the launch of the Traveler Update section to its web site. Not satisfied with simply adding social networking features to its website, Orbitz now wants people to use them!!
The Traveler Update is a service that allows travelers to share real-time information regarding what’s happening in and around the nation’s top airports and to encourage participation Orbitz is running a contest where from now through October 28, 2007 where the “Top 100” contributors to Traveler Update will be eligible to win two free first class airline vouchers.
“With more than 10,000 registered users based on buzz alone, we have a growing network of helpful travelers submitting updates at major airports every day,” said Randy Susan Wagner, chief marketing officer, Orbitz Worldwide, Inc. “OrbitzTLC Traveler Update is the next innovation in our unique high-tech, human touch approach to making travel more enjoyable, and we hope users continue to embrace the opportunity to benefit and help each other.”
In addition to the Traveler Update I found it very interesting to see that Orbitz has began to put its new TV commercials on YouTube. The channel has had almost 2,700 views. At first glance, that does not seem like a lot but remember that these are people who have actively decided to think search for and look at an Orbitz ad. Think of it like PPC marketing without the cost per click expense!
