Blogs Not For Everyone

June 9, 2008

A Deloitte & Touche study earlier this year looked at the different activities that users do online by age. The data is fascinating look at how we interact online.

The younger the user, the more likely he or she was to read or keep a blog on a weekly basis. For example, 55% of millennials (ages 13 to 24) surveyed read a blog, and the percentages declined for every age cohort in the study until reaching just 16% for matures (ages 61 to 75).

That is something to keep in mind the next time that someone tells you that your company has to have a blog, regardless of the age of your target audience.

It would be interesting to have those numbers on a more international basis. They can give a direction of where things might go, but being based on US numbers they are only valuable for that market. :)

Wow, some interesting stats there, make you think. Is there anything more recent available, or would the results be basically the same?
Very interesting and useful information, thanks!

Good point Nicole. Sometimes we think that U.S. data applies to the whole world, when instead social networking can be very different in other countries. See the U.K. vs U.S. for example
