A new report from MarketingProfs Twitter users are interested in learning new things and getting information in a timely manner.
The study of some 425 Twitter users found that nearly 100% respondents agreed with the statements “I value getting information in a timely manner,” and “I find it exciting to learn new things from people,” while about 80% “like to be connected to lots of people.”
Interestingly when asked whether members of the Twitter community value large numbers of followers respondents appeared to be evenly divided on the matter, as about 50% agreed with the statement “People who have a large number of followers are more respected than those who don’t.” Read more... I read this book a couple of weeks ago and have been meaning to write a review of it. The official title of the book is The Facebook Era: Tapping Online Social Networks to Build Better Products, Reach New Audiences, and Sell More Stuff by Clara Shih.
Clara works for Salesforce.com and while the book at times reads like a sales manual for Salesforce.com that does not detract from the useful information in the book. Read more... (157 words, 1 image, estimated 38 secs reading time)

Facebook is catching up with MySpace in the U.S., according to comScore.
Facebook added about 4 million unique visitors in March to reach 61.2 million and close within 9 million of MySpace, the top social network in the U.S. But while MySpace’s audience of 70.2 million has shrunk by 4% in the last year, Facebook’s has jumped 72%.
At the current rate of growth, Facebook is poised to overtake its social networking rival in the U.S. in the next few months. The company already surpassed MySpace last year as the most-trafficked social network globally. Facebook this month announced that it crossed the 200 million mark in active users worldwide, while MySpace has an estimated 130 million. Read more... (197 words, estimated 47 secs reading time)
I always love reading future projections where people take a little bit of information and then extrapolate that into the future. Remember the stock market analyst who projected that the Dow was going to hit 36,000?
Well eMarketer has a new report where they predict that there will be 18.1 million Twitter users in the U.S. in 2010 (that is next year), up from approximately 6 million Twitter users in the U.S. in 2008. To give that 18 million Twitter users some perspective, that would mean that almost 11% of all US internet users would be on Twitter.

It’s been a while since a story about social retailing has caught my eye. So I was interested to read an article on Adage titled “Online Shopping Goes From Solo Experience to Social Interaction“.
For those of you not familiar with the concept of social retailing, first a little background information. The consensus in the retailing world is that off-line shopping is a collaborative experience while shopping online is a solo endeavor, devoid of the interaction many consumers seek. You don’t get a group of people huddled around a computer monitor discussing whether an outfit would look good on someone. Read more... (514 words, estimated 2:03 mins reading time)
