LinkedIn is one of those social networks that doesn’t get a lot of mainstream attention, but if you are in the B2B market, LinkedIn it can be a great source of referrals and leads. It is also a great place to find new employees or build up your own digital brand.
So how do you do that? Implementing these three tactic can really improve the visibility of your LinkedIn profile.
Get a custom URL
A custom URL not only looks more professional but it appears to also help you rank higher in Google and LinkedIn search results.
This is how I changed my generic LinkedIn URL from http://www.linkedin.com/pub/david-wilson/2/783/b4b to http://www.linkedin.com/in/wilsondavidr
First click the “Edit” hyperlink at the bottom of your blue profile box next to “Public Profile” and your current URL. On the next page, click “Customize your public profile URL” and type in your preferred URL. I tried “firstnamelastname” but that was already taken so I went with “lastnamefirstname.”
Use LinkedIn Answers
One easy way to get visibility within your niche or market is to use LinkedIn Answers. Answers can be found under the “More” toolbar button.
You can ask any question you want, or answer someone else’s. After a week, the questioner tags the best answer. If you give the best answer, you get a badge on your profile that calls attention to your expertise. This is a great way to build your name and brand within LinkedIn as an expert in your field.
Join LinkedIn Groups
The LinkedIn groups is an often overlooked part of their site, but it is a great way to connect with other people in your market. If you belong to a group, you can contact other group members, which is a great way to make new connections.
